Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are you guys like a sports team or something?
A: I used to think so, but no. InterVarsity Christian Fellowship was founded at the University of Cambridge in England, so the name is derived from "Inter" meaning between, and "Varsity" the British term for college level students. We do, however, have a softball intramural team.

Q: Ohhh...ok, I get it! But why are you guys called Multiethnic InterVarsity?
A: There are five IV chapters at Northwestern: Multiethnic, Asian-American, Greek, House on the Rock, and La Fe. All have the same purpose statement and core set of beliefs, but each one has a different focus. At MEIV, we emphasize issues, such as racial reconciliation, social justice, and God's heart for the poor. Some of the things we do to deal with these issues may include exploring multiethnic styles of worship, building a diverse community, working together with particular student groups, etc.

Q: Cool, so when and where do you guys have your regular meetings?
A: Our general Large Group meetings are Wednesday nights, 8PM, usually at Parkes Hall, Rm. 122 but check the website and listserv for location changes. There are several Small Groups you can check out, which are posted here by location.

Q: What denomination is InterVarsity?
A: IV is not affiliated with a particular denomination. Click here to read our purpose statement and doctrinal basis.
