Witnessing Community Model
What is a Witnessing Community?
Witnessing communities will meet weekly to develop disciples of Christ in a biblical community, resulting in witnesses of Christ that permeates the campus.
Develop Disciples (Matthew 28:16-20)
Community Groups develop disciples by calling their members to repentance, faith, and obedience. The Vision Team chooses the specific area(s) of discipleship-such as, racial reconciliation, love, service, and personal spiritual disciplines-that the Witnessing Communities pursue.
Biblical Community (Acts 2:42-47)
Witnessing Communities embody biblical standards for community by devoting themselves the application of scripture, to each other, to worship of Christ, and to prayer. These communities seek to reflect the diversity of students represented on our campus.
Resulting Witness (1 Peter 2:11-12 and Acts 2:42-47)
Witnessing Communities bring God's light to the campus through their actions and relationships with nonbelievers.
What is the structure of a witnessing community?
Focused on reaching specific area of campus
The Witnessing Community is comprised of people from a specific area of campus (NW, NE, SW, S, SE). It is formed by geographically grouping dorms on campus.
Ministry in Teams: Each witnessing community will be lead by a team of leaders (bible study, outreach, small group) who will work together to provide direction for the group. In partnership they will guide the community in living out the vision. The community group leader, who participates on the Vision Team (MEIV overall leadership team), will oversee this team.
