Leadership Covenant
We believe in the lordship of Jesus Christ in our lives, and we each individually have a personal relationship with him.
We agree with the basis of faith and purpose of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Northwestern University.
We view ourselves as spiritual leaders to guide those whom God has given us to lead, and we commit ourselves to develop them in Christ as we are able.
As leaders, we commit to building Christ-like character. Because of this, we agree to continue to build our relationship with Christ through setting regular time in solitude with God, studying God's Word, and prayer. We will regularly attend church when possible, and utilize the MEIV community to continue to grow in Christ.
As leaders, we commit to making choices of conduct that are godly, consistent with God's Word, and that are "above reproach" and will lead our community into paths of holiness. For the context of our particular community, the university campus, we understand that certain lifestyle choices are more sensitive than others. Therefore, we commit to the following:
-
Abstaining from underage drinking or excessive drinking.
Serving friends in love, by refraining from gossip and slander.
Abstaining from pursuing a romantic relationship with others who aren't Christians.
Pursuing sexual purity, including abstaining from viewing pornography and avoiding tempting situations, including spending the night in the same room as a girlfriend or boyfriend or locking the door when in a room alone with a boyfriend or girlfriend.
As part of a leadership community, we commit to submitting ourselves to one another and also to those whom God has placed in leadership over us. If we are in disagreement with those in leadership over us, or other leaders in the community, we will provide them feedback with respect and resolve conflict swiftly in a biblical manner.
As leaders, we will execute our duties faithfully. We will actively pursue ministry to those around us and serve as examples to our community. This includes attending all possible leaders meetings, including Chapter FOCUS Week, Fall Retreat, and Winterfest. In the case that we are not able to attend these events, or to serve in leadership for the duration of the school year, we will make this known to those in leadership over us as soon as the information is known in order to serve our community.
As a community of leaders of Multiethnic InterVarsity at Northwestern University, we commit to the aforementioned principles and details.
